Monetary policy

A set of measures taken by a government or a central bank to try to improve economic conditions. The main action is to influence the supply of money in various way: printing more money, adjusting interest rates, controlling the amount of money in circulation in the banking system, etc.

Anecdote

One action taken by the Swiss National Bank as part of their monetary policy to try to stimulate the economy was to set negative interest rates in 2015.
